Acupuncture in Montreal: reasons for consulting in the Plateau-Mont-Royal

In the clinic, acupuncture is the main tool. In Chinese medicine, the aim is to get what has stalled moving again: an inherited way of speaking, not a demonstrated mechanism. The treatment follows an integrative approach, with acupuncture, visualization and breathing exercises, supported on occasion by electrostimulation, moxibustion, cupping or massage, and rounded out with advice on daily habits.

What people consult us for

The main reasons for consulting

Each reason leads to a dedicated page. Every situation is assessed individually: acupuncture takes its place within clinical care, with no promise of results.

01

Musculoskeletal pain and injuries

Neck, lower back and joint pain, and sports injuries, in step with physiotherapy.

02

Stress, anxiety and emotional balance

A steady clinical setting for the stress, anxiety and emotional load of daily life.

03

Insomnia and fatigue

Support for sleep and fatigue, at each person’s own pace.

04

Bruxism and jaw tension

Clenching, grinding and jaw tension, approached with caution.

05

Women’s health, fertility and pregnancy

Attentive support through the different stages, at each person’s own pace.

06

CNESST, SAAQ and cosmetic acupuncture

Accident files are taken on, plus a gentle approach to the face, with no promise of results.

Common reasons for consulting in acupuncture

These are the reasons people walk through our door. It’s a list of reasons, not of indications: it doesn’t say what acupuncture treats, it says what people come to talk to us about. For each one, acupuncture is considered alongside medical care, never in its place.

Frequently asked questions

Before your first visit

Do the needles hurt?

The needles are very fine. Most people feel a light sensation, sometimes a local heaviness, rarely pain. We always adjust to your comfort.

How many sessions are needed?

It depends on the reason for consulting and on each person. We discuss it from the first session and reassess as care goes on, with no commitment to a fixed number.

Are insurance receipts issued on site?

Yes. Receipts are issued on site for acupuncture and physiotherapy, for you to submit to your insurer. Check your coverage with them.

Do you take CNESST and SAAQ files?

Yes. CNESST files are handled by Jessica; SAAQ files, by Justin and Jessica. Please mention it when booking so the file is opened properly.

What happens during the first session?

The first appointment runs about 75 to 90 minutes, depending on the practitioner: a conversation about your reason for consulting, a clinical assessment, then treatment. You leave with clear reference points for what follows.

Are there any contraindications?

Some situations call for precautions (pregnancy, anticoagulant therapy, and others). We discuss them before any session so the treatment can be adapted.

Does acupuncture complement medical care?

Yes. Acupuncture is a complement to your medical care, never a replacement. We encourage you to continue that care as usual.

Where are you located?

At 1160, boul. Saint-Joseph Est, Suite #103, in the heart of the Plateau-Mont-Royal. Open 7 days a week.

What research says

On chronic pain, the best available evidence is an individual-patient-data meta-analysis of 39 trials and 20,827 patients (Vickers et al., The Journal of Pain, 2018 (opens in a new tab)): a real but modest effect, about 0.2 standard deviations against sham acupuncture, which persists at one year while fading. For other reasons for consulting, the quality of evidence varies, and we say so rather than round it up.
